The story continues
They were attacked for being Christian. Property damaged, bodies assaulted, they were driven out of the village. They called us, asking only for prayer. They wanted to go back in to serve those who persecuted them. They wanted to give clean water, turn a cheek, give life. Under threat of violence they wanted to look like Jesus. So we called for prayer—and we called for action. You acted. Your...

The best water in Visapuram
A Letter from Pastor Sanjiv Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Greetings to you in the name of our Lord. I would like to share with you the story of living water in my community. When I came to Visapuram to lead the church, the village was divided. Most of the people were Muslims or Hindus. Only a few of us were Christians, and we had no privileges. The Muslims and the Hindus had sources of...

Taste and see
Brother Timothy works among the remote tribal people who live in the mountains of eastern Andhra Pradesh. This region is just south of Orissa, the Indian state that has been a hot spot of religious persecution in recent years. Things aren’t quite as desperate here as they are in Orissa—or in Uttarakhand, where an LWI drilling crew was driven out of a village a few weeks ago—but religious tension...

Water well drilling team attacked in North India
TENSION REMAINS HIGH A Living Water International drilling team in North India was recently attacked and driven out of a village called Manupura. Their assailants were a crowd of angry men who thought that the well would be used to coerce people to convert to Christianity. They were misinformed. LWI projects in India are provided for everyone, regardless of race or religion. But the incident...

A Real Community
The village of Kakkudamon is a cluster of homes that perch on a rocky hill near the edge of a national forest in the south Indian state of Kerala. The families who make up these households live here because the land is cheap—they can’t afford to live anywhere else. This community didn’t come together because they share a religion or culture; Muslims, Christians, and Hindus from a variety of sects...

Water Heals
Being a Christian in India is harder now than it has been in years. It is a country that is fractured by religious agendas, and people are angry. Violence against Christians has become commonplace. The Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently spoke out about the spread of anti-Christian violence in India. The sight of mobs smashing churches and prayer halls while Christians in the country are...

Bringing Water, Building Bridges
Meet Mathew. He is a full-time missionary to the prisons in Kerala, a state in southern India. Now in his fifties, he has been doing this work for many years. He feels that it suits him—years ago, he was a convict himself. Although he has spent much of his time traveling from prison to prison, ministering to inmates, he wanted to be a missionary to his neighbors too. Read more
